I first came to understand this concept, actually from learning how to pick up on girls in public places. When you see a beautiful stranger in a coffee shop, or on the street or whatever and have the guts to go up and talk to her, she will of course first be surprised and a little suspicious. Her first reaction will be "Who is this weirdo and what does he want?" You get over this hurdle in your opening by first pacing the reality of the situation. The first thing you should say is something like "I know it's weird to have some stranger come up to you like this, but-..." or,"I"m sorry, this may sound strange, but..." You start out by flat-out admitting what your audience is thinking and AGREE with it. This IS weird. It IS abnormal for someone to do this. We are in agreement. But in this case, it is okay. Then, you can move on with your unbelievably ballsy move.

Don't try to hide a plot hole. If there's no way around it, admit it, shrug, and move on like it's no big deal. A classic example is the end of the original Terminator, when Sara Conner is recording a message for her unborn son John and gets caught up speaking about the paradox of how John came to be conceived. She abruptly stops, and admits "You could go crazy thinking about this." And that's it. The storytellers admit it is hard to believe. Oh well. What are you going to do? Just trust us on this one.SCRIPTMONK!!!https://www.blogger.com/profile/13911675482380489540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1859940184293909528.post-1962029755772545472010-04-16T18:39:40.493-07:002010-04-16T18:39:40.493-07:00i need more help in this here area than you might ...i need more help in this here area than you might imagine. especially for the superhero thing . . . yikes!Thom Brannanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01448372948030121434noreply@blogger.com
