I would certainly recommend it. That's a lot of great writing advice for two quid.

On dialogue: my(co-written) script made it through to the next round of a competition recently; on doing the re-writes they requested, it was painful how many "yeah", "exactly", "that's right"s and other "listening" words we should have cut from the original's dialogue.Declannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1859940184293909528.post-33536668616857629652012-03-16T08:37:19.135-07:002012-03-16T08:37:19.135-07:00Yes. I'm surprised you have to ask. ;)Rakiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03787205403166404103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1859940184293909528.post-48620882198639994172012-03-15T20:01:08.802-07:002012-03-15T20:01:08.802-07:00Yes I would by a writer on writing book. For sure....Yes I would by a writer on writing book. For sure. But I would also like a few extra's like what a true process is like from stem to stern. Timewise....distractions...doubt...time at computer...beta readers to getting your first reviews. I think people who have never been through that would enjoy it.

Suffering map just to read a bad book? No not really. Excerpts within the writer on writing book where you analyze what you did right, wrong or should have developed? Yes.

Dialogue..with the examples you posted above where you said "impenetrable" I agree with that. I used to love Chuck Palahniuk but he now uses so many layers its just unreadable. Like he's trying too hard to be intellectual. Another pitfall in my opinion with statements with subtext is the writer can be far too cute. So that moved you over to the reader either not taking the book seriously or basing it on humor which can turn someone off. There is a zombie book out there with a brilliant story. Top notch ideas but the lifeblood was dialogue and dialogue based on wittiness just killing the book.Evannoreply@blogger.com
