Mickey uses an 8-segment cutting tool to neatly divide the cake into eight equal slices. Then he thumps the table and the cake wedges neatly hop onto plates. BUT -- there are only seven plates. The eight segments of cake mysteriously become seven.

I'd have to examine it frame-by-frame, but -- I think Mickey is grabbing one segment and swallowing it whole in the split second before the other seven pieces plop onto their plates.

What is Mickey trying to tell us?

I've been writing on and off since the 1970s. Just short of ten years ago, I quit my current day job (close to committing assault on my untrustworthy, sexually-harassing boss) and decided to get serious about it. I sold my first story that April, and have tried to writing with a professional attitude ever since.

"Rich and famous" was never my dream; just want to make a living as a working writer, and tell the stories that keep cropping up in my head. After almost a decade, that dream doesn't feel much closer; 25-30 story sales, a short-lived fiction column, couple of script sales. No finished novel, no feature-length scripts. That's got to change in 2019.

I'm hoping to concoct a brulee with just enough maggot in it to make me happy, but not so much maggot that nobody else likes it.

Manuel Royalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00392229225958688128noreply@blogger.com
